Market brief

Japanese economy expanded by 1.0 pct q/q in first quarter of 2012, slightly higher than 0.9 pct expected by economists. Rising consumer spending, post-earth quake rebuilding and good export performance helped the economy to bounce back form 0.2 pct shrinkage in previous quarter (Oct -Dec) which also was revised up to 0.0 pct. In annualized terms economy grew 4.1 percent. Private consumption was up by 1.1 percent while external demand was up 0.1 percent.  However capital expenditure dropped by 3.9 percent. Japanese economy minister representative said that GDP deflator has posted its first rise in last 13 quarters. He also said that government expects growth trend to continue in Apr-Jun quarter, but need to watch risk from European debt crisis.
